Types of Parvovirus Dogs Can Get
There are three types of Parvovirus Dogs, namely:
1. Parvovirus Canine Type 1 (CPV-1)
- is a virus that causes disease in dogs.
- It is the most common cause of infectious canine hepatitis and enteritis in North America, Western Europe, and Japan.
- The virus is spread primarily by contact with infected feces or urine, although it can also be spread by contact with infected blood, saliva, or nasal secretions.
- Signs of infection can range from mild to severe and include loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea (sometimes bloody), fever, jaundice (yellowing of the skin), lethargy (sluggishness), weight loss, and death from liver failure or secondary infections such as sepsis or pneumonia.

2. Parvovirus Canine Type 2 (CPV-2)
- Parvovirus is a highly contagious virus that affects the intestinal tract of dogs. It is caused by a small, round, single-stranded DNA virus. Parvovirus is also known as Canine Type 2 (CPV-2) and
3. Parvovirus Canine Type 3 (CPV-3)
- Parvovirus Canine Type 3 (CPV-3) is a virus that infects dogs and can cause severe illness and death.
- The virus spreads from dog to dog through the air, contact with contaminated objects, or contact with infected feces. The virus can also be transmitted from infected mothers to their puppies through the milk, or through contact with the mother’s birth canal.
- Parvovirus Canine Type 3 (CPV-3) has two strains: CPV-2 and CPV-3. CPV-2 is more common in dogs than CPV-3 and it is less likely to cause serious illness in dogs.
